DAVID SCHAFFER

David is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. He has experience working with both adolescents and adults navigating through the symptoms of depression, anxiety, generational trauma, and a multitude of other personal struggles. David draws from a variety of modalities that include cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and Somatic Experiencing. He also incorporates his experience into providing Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy for clients interested in exploring new modalities to help manage mental health struggles. David has worked with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds and works with clients to understand how this frames personal experience. He has years of experience working with substance use issues and has teamed with other providers to provide the best treatment possible.


David received his Bachelor’s Degree from Dickinson College where he studied Comparative Religion, focusing on Tibetan Buddhism. He received his Master’s Degree in social work from the University of Vermont. David has worked in community mental health and hospital settings in Vermont and Pennsylvania before settling in the New Paltz area. In addition to his clinical experience, David is also a music lover and outdoor enthusiast, both of which he incorporates into his practice as much as possible.


David is also a ketamine assisted psychotherapy provider.
