Donnie Joseph has 27 years of experience working in social service and counseling spaces. During that time he has worked to counsel and support people during challenging times in their lives- whether in a psychiatric unit, emergency department, an outpatient substance abuse program, a long-term residential adolescent program, or a stabilization unit, Donnie considers it an honor and a privilege to stand alongside people and be a source of support during these vulnerable times. He has seen over the years that being a good listener, being present, acknowledging an individual’s strengths, helping rediscover a sense of purpose, developing new productive coping skills, and identifying a willingness to do something different as essential and transformative features in his work with clients. Donnie embraces an eclectic therapeutic approach in therapy using trauma-informed care, Socratic dialogue, motivational interviewing, bibliotherapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy when appropriate to the circumstances and needs of his clients. 

 

Donnie earned his Master of Science in Counseling at Pace University and continued his training through a bridge program at Long Island University, becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Donnie is also a Master level Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor. He has served as the Clinical Director and Program Coordinator for outpatient programs. When not working directly with clients, Donnie enjoys opportunities to engage the local community and share the importance of mental health care and substance abuse treatment. He created a partnership for two food pantries in Westchester County while serving as Community Service Director for his church. He also enjoys playing his keyboard and supporting the arts, specifically vocals and dance.
