LMSW, Psychotherapist
Julia offers counseling and therapy to adults, adolescents, and children, using somatic and trauma-informed methods, always tailoring the approach to the client.
The core of Julia's practice is nonjudgemental, attuned listening informed by a variety of person-centered, strengths-based modalities including Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, Solutions Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Jules is a queer harm reductionist who fiercely values justice and patient autonomy. Her practice centers an awareness of power, race, gender and class, with a commitment to acknowledging these forces and how they impact our wellbeing in all the systems in which we are all embedded. Key to surviving and thriving amidst these systems is our sense of connection, relationship, and, crucially, humor and pleasure.
Jules has worked with people of all ages in individual and group settings, and has particular expertise in working with kids, people in crisis, LGTBQ folks, and people who use drugs. Julia's sessions encourage embodiment, play, and curiosity, but only after establishing a sense of safety rooted in mutual respect, collaboration, and reciprocity.
Julia's special interests are in working with children and adolescents, play therapy, spirituality, grief, addiction, gender, sexuality, non-traditional relationships, and parenting.
Julia received an undergraduate degree from Harvard College in 2004, a Masters of Social Work from the University at Buffalo School of Social Work in 2023, and is currently working towards a certificate program in Somatic Experiencing (SE). Jules has worked as a therapist since 2021 at a community LGBTQ+ center, in public schools with children ages 6 and up, in hospital emergency departments, and in a community hospice program. Before becoming a therapist, Julia had careers as a journalist and a community organizer responding to the opioid crisis.
